Kerr County Engineer central to the details regarding the July 4th floods passes away. According to an official statement from Kerr County regarding the passing away of Charlie Hastings, “During the July 4 flood disaster and its aftermath, Charlie was an invaluable resource and uplifting presence on our emergency response team, working tirelessly to serve the people of Kerr County when they needed him most. He embodied the very best of what we hope for in our public servants: professional excellence, genuine congeniality and unwavering teamwork. Beyond his technical expertise, Charlie was a friend and mentor to many.” Hastings was with Kerr County for 12 years. No other information has been released.

The Fredericksburg Fire/EMS Department in conjunction with crews from across the county, region and state are still working to contain the Nebo Mountain Fire as of Wednesday morning.

As of its latest update, the Texas A&M Forest Service reports the fire has impacted an estimated 1,160 acres and is 40% contained, which is an increase of 660 acres and 15 percent from 10 p.m. on Tuesday. The fire remains primarily situated between Exxon Road and Legion Creek Road in the northern part of Gillespie County.

Overnight, ground crews did large back burn operations, monitored containment lines and targeted hotspots. They reported no fire spread outside containment lines.

The Texas A&M Forest Service anticipates air attack and airdrop operations to resume Wednesday, depending on statewide resource prioritization. There are currently an estimated 100 personnel on the ground with 60 Texas A&M Forest Service crew members and 40 county personnel.

If you missed it, at 8:30 this morning Chad Hill presented one of Mary Nowlin’s lions to Paige from the Dietert Center in Kerrville in honor of their lion-hearted recovery from the July flood. She immediately took it back to the Dietert, where it was welcomed warmly. Hats off to these courageous people!

Our friend Paige from the Dietert Center in Kerrville paid us a visit today and we got to present to her a special Lion Club lion from our friend, Mary Nowlin. You may have seen Mary’s hand-made lion on the Wall of Rememberance after the flood in downtown Kerrville. The Dietert team rose back up from the flood waters and quickly resumed their important work in this area, serving people of all ages and needs.

The City of Kerrville will resume regular business hours on Tuesday, Jan. 27, 2026, at all city-operated facilities, with the exception of the Scott Schreiner Municipal Golf Course, which will remain closed.

An Arctic front continues to bring overnight temperatures in the teens and low 20s; however, conditions are expected to improve significantly throughout the day
Tuesday.

While city operations will reopen, most area school districts across Kerr County will remain closed due to broader roadway conditions. Hunt ISD has reported a delayed
start.

Republic Services, the City of Kerrville’s residential trash and recycling provider, has implemented a one-day service delay:
All trash and recycling collections will occur one day later than the regular schedule

Utility Billing Due Date Extensions
